What to expect from a live CCTV monitoring service in the first 30 days
Site walk, compatibility check, protocol, shadow nights, go-live, first monthly review — the sequence, and what each step should produce.
Week one: a site walk or remote camera review. The provider should tell you, camera by camera, which views are usable at night and which are not — and give it to you in writing. Then a compatibility check of your recorder or cloud system, and a request for named credentials (never your owner login).
Week one to two: the protocol. You and the provider write the escalation rules, the contact tree and the authorized-person list. Then two shadow nights: the system runs, every alert is reviewed with you, and sensitivities are tuned. If the provider skips this step, expect false alerts in week three.
Go-live: the first real night. You should receive a morning summary even if nothing happened. Over the first month, expect a handful of real events — usually trespass and loitering — each with a clip and an action.
Day 30: a review. Events by hour, interventions, response times, camera health, and recommended changes to zones or lighting. If you are not getting that review, ask for it; it is where the program gets better.
