Frequently asked questions
Straight answers about cameras, costs, response and what happens at 3 a.m. when something moves on your site.
Getting started
Not usually. If your cameras are IP-based and your recorder can reach the internet, we connect remotely. During the site walk we tell you plainly which cameras are too dark, too low-resolution or badly aimed to be useful, and what it would take to fix them.
Five to seven days from a signed agreement for most sites with existing cameras. Mobile towers can be deployed within days; new camera installs depend on scope.
Hikvision, Dahua, Axis, Uniview, Hanwha, Avigilon, Verkada, Eagle Eye, Rhombus and most ONVIF-compatible recorders. If yours is not on the list, ask — it probably works.
An initial term (typically 12 months), then month-to-month. Mobile towers rent by the month with a one-month minimum.
Monitoring & response
Both. Analytics filter the thousands of motion events a night down to real people and vehicles in armed zones. A licensed operator in our Los Angeles center reviews every one of those on live video and decides what to do.
Follows your post orders: typically a live audio warning naming the subject’s clothing and location, a text to your contact, and — if the subject does not leave — VSS mobile response dispatch and/or police.
Alert-to-operator review averages under 30 seconds. A live audio warning follows within a minute. Patrol ETAs across LA and Orange County typically run 10–25 minutes.
Yes, where a gate or door relay is connected. Operators verify the person on camera against your approved list before releasing.
Most clients arm zones after hours and on weekends. Some sites run 24/7 monitoring for specific zones (a yard, a loading dock) while the business is open.
Cost & coverage
Typical single sites run from a few hundred to a few thousand dollars per month depending on camera count, hours and response level — generally 60–80% less than a posted overnight guard. We quote a flat monthly price after a free coverage review.
Monitoring can serve any site with a reliable internet connection. VSS mobile response covers Los Angeles and Orange County; outside that area we coordinate with local law enforcement or a vetted local partner.
Yes. Portfolios are run as one program with per-site post orders, a shared watchlist and consolidated reporting.
Privacy, licensing & evidence
Yes. Virtual Sites Security holds California Alarm Company Operator license ACO #8182, issued by the Bureau of Security and Investigative Services.
We monitor the areas you designate — never inside residences or clinical spaces — mask sensitive angles, restrict footage access to authorized contacts and our operators, and provide a written policy you can share with tenants or staff.
Yes. Every incident report includes clips and stills; longer exports are available on request within your retention window.
