A camera that quietly died last month protects nothing.
Most property owners discover a failed camera only when they need the footage. Camera health monitoring checks every stream continuously — connectivity, focus, exposure, obstruction, tampering — and opens a maintenance ticket the moment something degrades.
Blind spots are rarely dramatic. They are slow.
A spider web across the lens. A bumped bracket now pointed at the sky. A recorder drive that filled up. An IR illuminator that failed so the night view is black. None of these trigger an alarm — they just stop producing usable evidence. We catch them within an hour and track the fix.

What we check
Stream availability
Cameras and recorders pinged and sampled every minute; outages escalated on a schedule you set.
Image quality
Daily day/night frame scoring flags blur, glare, dirt, fog and pointing changes with a side-by-side comparison.
Recorder hygiene
Storage headroom, retention days, time drift and firmware alerts so footage exists when you need it.
Included with monitoring, or stand-alone for large camera estates.
Every VSS monitoring account includes health checks on monitored cameras. Property managers with dozens or hundreds of cameras across a portfolio can run health monitoring on its own, with a monthly system-condition report and a maintenance queue for their vendor.
About camera health monitoring
Yes. VSS field technicians handle cleaning, re-aiming, replacements and recorder issues across Los Angeles and Orange County, or we route tickets to your existing vendor.
Yes for most (Verkada, Eagle Eye, Rhombus and similar). We use their APIs for status and pull sample frames for quality scoring.
Each camera has a reference day and night frame. A daily score compares sharpness, exposure and overlap against the reference; a drop past the threshold opens a ticket with both images attached.
